Your education at Techcollege
How vocational training is structured
A vocational education is structured as a course where school and business interact.
You typically start at school. Later you become an apprentice in a company. Along the way you alternate between school periods and periods in the company.
But there are several paths into the education - and the process may look different depending on your background.
Here you get an overview.
There are several ways to start
Most people start with what is called the basic course, but not everyone does.
Your path depends on:
Your age
Your school background
Which education do you choose?
Whether you have relevant experience from the industry
If you already have an apprenticeship
If you are in doubt about what applies to you, you are always welcome to speak to an educational advisor.

The basic course takes place at the school.
Here you work with the basic professional skills within your field of study. You learn about the industry's working methods and prepare for an apprenticeship.
For students coming directly from primary school, the basic course consists of two parts:
Basic course 1:
Here you will be presented with different education programs within a chosen field of study before you finally choose your education.
Basic course 1 is only for those who have completed primary school less than two years ago.
Basic course 2:
Here you will start the education you have chosen. You will be taught the subjects that are central to your education.
Basic course 2 is for everyone.
If it has been more than two years since you finished primary school, you must apply directly to basic course 2.
If it has been between ½ and two years since you finished primary school, you can choose whether you want to start basic course 1 or basic course 2.
The goal of the basic course is for you to be ready to start the main course.
To start the main course, you must have passed basic course 2 or a practical test as a new master apprentice, and have an apprenticeship in a company.
This means that you enter into a training agreement and become an apprentice.
During the main course you will alternate between:
Periods in the company
Periods at school
When you are in the company, you work with the profession on a daily basis and gain responsibility as you develop.
When you are at school, you build on your professional knowledge, both theoretically and practically.
It's called a work-study program.
A permanent part of the training
An apprenticeship is a fixed part of the structure of most vocational education programs.
You must apply for an apprenticeship yourself, but you can get help and sparring along the way.
If you do not have an apprenticeship when you start the main course, you can continue in school training within some education programs.
School training is our offer for students who are temporarily missing an apprenticeship. Here you continue your education at school and work on tasks that are similar to those you would encounter in a company.
At the same time, you must continue to actively search for an apprenticeship.
School training is part of the vocational education system and helps ensure that your course can continue.
A vocational training course ends with an exam. In many training courses, this is a journeyman exam.
The journeyman's test is the professional conclusion of your course. Here you show that you can work independently and deliver the craftsmanship or professional solution that the industry expects.
The exam may consist of both a practical assignment and a theoretical part – depending on the education. It is assessed according to fixed criteria set for the subject.
When you pass, you will receive your journeyman's certificate and have completed your education. This documents that you have the skills required in the industry – and gives you access to a job or further education.
Your process may look different.
Some:
Have an apprenticeship from the start
Changing companies along the way
Taking part of the education abroad
Starting later in life
Have credits from previous education
Therefore, it is always a good idea to get an overview of your specific course.
You are always welcome to contact our educational guidance if you need help.
EUV is a vocational training program for adults over 25 years of age.
If you have relevant work experience within the subject you want to train in, you must have completed a prior learning assessment (RKV) before starting. This way, your education can be planned based on the knowledge and experience you already have.
A supervisor at Techcollege assesses your overall competencies in relation to the education you are applying for. This includes looking at:
Whether you have work experience
Whether your experience is relevant to the education
Whether you have any education other than primary school
Even if you have no work experience or previous education, you can start EUV if you are 25 years old.
When you apply via optagelse.dk , you will automatically be contacted by a supervisor at Techcollege.
You will then complete an information form that forms the basis for your education plan and shows the length of your course. The completed form will be sent to you in e-Boks.
If you have applied to one of our programs and you do not achieve an average of 02 in the elementary school exam in Danish or mathematics, we will call you for an admission test and interview.
We also invite students who are about to start basic course 2 and who have not been able to obtain their diploma.
Both the entrance exam in Danish and the entrance exam in mathematics last two hours.
The exams in Danish and mathematics are held at many schools in the country, and it does not matter which school you take the exams at.
Read more about the entrance exam or see examples of previous exams.
A prior learning assessment (RKV) involves assessing all your documentation of previous schooling, education and relevant work experience (within the last five years).
If you have more than two years of relevant work experience, we may choose to invite you for a practical clarification at Techcollege or at your workplace.
Any shortening is determined by the industry you want to train in.
