General information about training agreements
The training agreement is a binding contract that both the student and the company must sign. The company undertakes to provide the practical part of the student's training, and the student is obliged to complete the tasks assigned to him by the employer. The student receives a wage as an employee as stipulated in the collective agreement throughout the entire agreement period, including during school stays.
The support team and internship consultants have forms for training agreements and can help fill them in. From July 1, 2017, the school will switch to using digital training agreements.
Probation period and termination of agreement
The first three months of the internship are a probationary period, during which the agreement can be terminated by the student or employer. After the probationary period, the agreement is irrevocable. It can only be changed if both parties agree – or terminated if one of the parties does not comply with the obligations of the agreement. Termination must be made on a special form – ask the internship consultant, or use the link above.
If a student's training agreement is terminated, the student must apply for a new agreement in order to complete their education. The student must contact the internship center for assistance in finding another training place.
If the student loses the internship through no fault of their own, for example if the company closes down and the student is unable to immediately find a new position, the student can contact the internship center and apply for a school internship, if the program is offered with a school internship and the student otherwise meets certain criteria.
Different types of training agreements
There are currently a number of options for adapting an apprenticeship to the circumstances of the specific company. Below they will be briefly presented as examples, but the internship center will of course help find the form that best suits the company's current opportunities.
As a company, you must be approved for the part covered by the training agreement.
1) The general education agreement
The company must be approved for the student's entire education and collaborate with the vocational school on the student's entire education, i.e. all internships and school courses.
The company has the financial, legal and educational responsibility throughout the entire duration of the agreement.
The training agreement can be made after the basic course or before the student starts the basic course.
2) Combination agreement
A (ordinary) combination agreement is a special type of agreement where the student has an agreement with several companies about the internship. The special thing about this ordinary combination agreement is that all elements of the agreement must be in place at the start of the first part of the combination agreement.
3) Agreement on new apprenticeship
A new apprenticeship is a special form of starting a vocational education, where the student starts with a year in a company. During this year, the student must acquire skills so that he/she is ready to start the main course. The company thus takes over the responsibility for achieving educational goals, which are normally the school's goals in the basic course.
The agreement for a new apprenticeship normally covers the entire training course.
4) Short training agreement
A short training agreement must include at least an internship period and the subsequent main course or vice versa. It is possible to employ the student for, for example, 10 months, where eight months are in the company and two months are in connection with a school stay. The short agreement can be extended or renewed.
5) Agreements with school internship students
In some subjects, there is an opportunity for school internships for students who have not found an internship after the basic course.
With students in school internships, several types of training agreements can be made in companies:
Remaining agreement
A residual agreement is the last agreement that a student enters into if, for some reason, it is necessary to complete the internship with more than one agreement, for example in the event of a company closing or if the student has their original agreement terminated for some other reason.
Partial agreement for students in school internships
During the agreement period, partial agreements have the same obligations for both parties as a regular training agreement, and the student is paid according to the collective agreement according to the same rules.
