Meet Jan

Janitor from Building Services

“It's an exciting, spacious and versatile workplace where no two days are ever the same.”

This is how Jan Broholm describes his everyday life at Techcollege. He was hired on October 1, 2024 – and at the same time took a bold step in a new direction.

“Taking the plunge was a big decision – but it has turned out to be the right one. I am really enjoying myself and am becoming more and more happy to be here.”

As a janitor in Building Services, Jan is part of the team that makes the framework work – every day. He shows up for events and exams, assists the craftsman team and solves small and large tasks across the organization. Often behind the scenes. Always with meaning.

“We work in a changing world where new tasks can quickly change plans. Therefore, it is important for us that we plan and solve tasks as efficiently and appropriately as possible.”

It requires overview, flexibility and cooperation. And cooperation is very important to him.

“When we are involved early, we can really contribute with our experience – and then the solutions will be both better and more well-thought-out.”

For Jan, work is about more than practical tasks. It's about making a difference.

“The opportunity to help make a difference for colleagues around the departments motivates me.”

Even though he is not in front of a class, the students are always at the center of the work he and his colleagues do.

“I try to carry out my tasks as inconspicuously as possible. When the day is over, all the work we do is about the students having a good day at Techcollege.”

Meet Sigurdur

Vocational teacher, Baker and pastry chef

“Almost 15 years – and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.”

For Siggi, teaching is not just a job. It's a calling. He teaches courses, holds courses and works with team building. But at the heart of it all are the students.

“It's the students and the teaching that matter. They're what it's all about.”

His driving force lies in the movement – in the development of the subject and in involving students in it.

“I am motivated by being in motion with my profession – following developments, working with new techniques and involving students in the process.”

The baking profession is constantly evolving. New techniques. New trends. New demands. And Siggi insists on keeping up.

“I think it is incredibly important that you don't stand still – for your own sake, for the sake of the students, and for the sake of the profession.”

But the biggest moment isn't the new technology. It's the transformation.

“When I see the students grow between school courses. When I can see their independence, professionalism and belief in themselves grow all the way up to the journeyman's exam. You become proud of them.”

He describes the students as hardworking, curious and committed. They want the subject. And they want each other.

“They are really good with each other – and that creates a learning environment where there is room to develop.”

For Siggi, it is an honor to be part of the journey.

“Being allowed to be part of the students' education and contributing to their professional – and perhaps also personal – development is a great honor for me as a subject teacher.”

And the ambition is clear:

“I work at Techcollege because I want to inspire, motivate and shape the bakers and pastry chefs of the future – for the profession and for the profession.”

Meet Vivi

Data and Methodology Consultant, People & Organization

“My primary task is to develop, implement and operate the school's quality system.”

But for Vivi, it's about much more than systems and structure. It's about creating direction. About ensuring that development doesn't happen by chance, but on a solid and well-thought-out basis.

“What takes up the most of my everyday life is translating data, evaluations and strategic goals into knowledge that makes sense in practice.”

For her, quality must never be something that is just documented. It must be used. It must be felt. It must make a difference.

“I am motivated by helping to support a school where decisions and development are based on knowledge – and where quality is not just documentation, but an active tool.”

The strongest moment is when the work moves from analysis to action.

“When data and quality work are actively used in the organization – and when it leads to concrete improvements that can be felt in teaching and in students' everyday lives – then it really makes sense.”

For Vivi, quality work is not a solo discipline. It is a shared movement.

“For me, quality work is first and foremost a shared concern. It is best achieved through dialogue and close collaboration across the organization – with a focus on how we best support students’ learning and well-being.”

And this is precisely where her driving force lies:

“I work at Techcollege because I want to help create a school where quality and development ultimately make a real and positive difference for the students.”
