Carpenter trailer
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT?
In a mini version of a carpentry workshop, a new bridge-building trailer will be deployed to elementary and secondary schools with the aim of creating curiosity, interest in and increased demand for vocational training in the crafts sector.
WHO IS BEHIND?
The project is funded by the Professional Committee for the Wood Trades and is run by Techcollege.
The project is managed by Techcollege, but has been developed in close collaboration with LUU and SMVaalborg, who – in addition to contributing experience – will assist in the recruitment of apprentices. When the carpentry trailer's visit schedule is published, LUU and SMVaalborg, in collaboration with their member companies, will find apprentices who, together with a teacher and educational guide, will be followed from the vocational school to the school in question.
WHICH COURSES ARE PARTICIPATING?
The following programs from Techcollege participate:
The vocational training courses in crafts
An education guide participates in all school visits to inform elementary and secondary school students about vocational education in general.
THE PROJECT IN NUMBERS
Total project budget: DKK 332,267.
Techcollege's total budget: DKK 332,267. Of which self-financing: DKK 0.
Project period: January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2025
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF THE PROJECT?
The concept is based on a converted closed trailer equipped with workshop benches, nail blocks, tools from Bosch, and in the carpentry trailer there is the opportunity to try out small hands-on construction projects and competitions in schoolyards and outdoor areas at schools around. The carpentry trailer will visit twelve elementary and secondary schools in and outside Aalborg Municipality, and the ambition is that 500 students in total will be allowed to try their hand at carpentry in the trailer. The schools will be visited by the trailer and a teacher, an educational guide from Techcollege and an apprentice.
WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROJECT?
Visits to 12 elementary schools and secondary schools with the expectation of the following outcomes:
More students in our craft education programs
Greater interest in bridge building in the future of vocational education
