“I want to be the one who makes the experience extra good”
Making others feel welcome, seen and helped is exactly what motivates Cecilie. The 19-year-old student in the receptionist program at Techcollege has not just chosen an education – she has found her professional home base. With her head and hands fully engaged in the profession, Cecilie has already secured an apprenticeship at the exclusive resort HimmerLand and has also advanced in the selection for the Skills competitions.
A natural passion for service
“I grew up with it,” says Cecilie, whose father is a trained waiter from Techcollege. Hosting runs in the family – and not least in her DNA. But Cecilie does it in her own way: with ambition, presence and the desire to make a difference. “It’s about providing a good experience, providing that extra service and having the energy to recommend something special to the guests,” she explains.
For her, the receptionist profession is not just about standing at the front desk and checking people in and out. It's about creating an atmosphere, overview and trust – and about being able to balance professionalism, structure and human contact in one and the same role.
Professionalism at eye level – with room to grow
At Techcollege, Cecilie experiences how professionalism and passion go hand in hand. She is currently doing GF2 and will start her apprenticeship at HimmerLand on September 1. An apprenticeship she secured after she had done an Easter internship at the resort. “It was huge – and I felt included from day one.”
Director Jane Andersen from HimmerLand says:
"Cecilie is a determined young woman who shows her enthusiasm and drive in the industry. Through her internship, she easily convinced us that she was HimmerLand's next talent."
She has a flair for people, works systematically and thoroughly, and sets the bar high for the experiences she delivers.
So we are so happy that she is part of the team at HimmerLand, and hope she does really well in Skills”.
Receptionists can also compete
Cecilie recently advanced to the first round of the selection to represent Denmark in EuroSkills and WorldSkills. Something she never imagined was possible for a receptionist. “I thought Skills was only for chefs and waiters, but it’s really cool that we can compete too,” she says.
A strong foundation for the future – both professionally and personally
The receptionist training at Techcollege gives Cecilie a strong foundation – both in service understanding, systems knowledge, psychology and law. All the things that make a receptionist a key person in any company. But for Cecilie it's about identity: "I just want to be a good receptionist. Someone who makes the guest's day a little better."
When Cecilie is not at school or at work, she spends her time with her boyfriend, who is also in the industry, as well as family and friends. She shops, knits and reads – and recharges for a day where she has to meet people at eye level every day and give her very best.
