Safety during asbestos demolition (authorization)

Course content:

The participant can work with all demolition of asbestos-containing material, especially demolition of asbestos requiring authorization. The participant can also work with any other asbestos work such as repair and maintenance, cleaning for asbestos dust, removal of asbestos-contaminated material, asbestos clean-up after fires, etc. and taking asbestos samples.

Target group:

demolition of asbestos-containing material within various work areas, e.g. asbestos-containing roof tiles, wall coverings, tile adhesive, pipe insulation and water pipes

repair, maintenance and encapsulation of various asbestos-containing materials, e.g. in relation to buildings and facilities

cleaning for asbestos dust, etc., including before completion of asbestos work

removal of asbestos-contaminated material, e.g. asbestos-contaminated insulation material in attics

asbestos cleanup after fires, storm damage, collapses, etc.

sampling, including material samples and gel tape samples

Goal:

Participants can work in a fully safe and health-friendly manner with demolition of asbestos-containing material requiring authorization and any other asbestos work, as defined and regulated in the Executive Order on Asbestos in the Working Environment.

In this context, the participant has acquired the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills with regard to prevention and safety.

The participant:

Knows relevant work environment regulations, including the regulations regarding:

asbestos in the working environment

cleaning of work areas

demolition of asbestos-containing material requiring authorization

preliminary investigation to determine which materials may contain asbestos, including the availability of test results to employees

training and instruction in carrying out the specific work

youth work

the distribution of responsibilities in relation to relevant actors

asbestos work report

asbestos protocols

Knows the properties and health effects of asbestos, including the synergistic effect of smoking.

Know which types of products or materials may be suspected of containing asbestos.

Know which activities can lead to exposure to asbestos dust and know the importance of preventive protective measures to reduce exposure.

Know which work methods are safe.

Can use technical aids such as technological equipment and machines in such a way that the development and spread of asbestos dust is limited. Can work with, among other things:

low-dust working methods

process extraction and other extraction

demarcation of a work area, signage and access

shielding of a work area, including using a dust-proof tent or similar, negative pressure and access via airlock

cleaning, including suitable vacuum cleaner

own safety when taking samples

Know which protective measures and personal protective equipment to use in different work situations.

Knows the purpose of personal protective equipment and can choose the right ones and knows the associated limitations and can use personal protective equipment correctly, especially with regard to respiratory protection.

Knows emergency measures.

Knows decontamination procedures.

Can handle asbestos-containing waste for disposal, including correct packaging and labeling of the waste.

Know that employees must be offered access to health screenings.

The participant can work in a completely safe and health-friendly manner with:

Demolition of asbestos-containing material within various work areas, e.g. asbestos-containing roof tiles, wall coverings, tile adhesive, pipe insulation and water pipes.

Repair, maintenance and encapsulation of various asbestos-containing materials, e.g. in buildings and facilities.

Cleaning for asbestos dust, etc., including before completion of asbestos work.

Removal of asbestos-contaminated material, e.g. asbestos-contaminated insulation material in attics.

Asbestos cleanup after fires, storm damage, collapses, etc.

Sampling, including material samples and gel tape samples.
