The profession requires calm, structure and the desire to understand animals and their needs.
As a landscape gardener, you work to create and maintain green areas. You learn to combine professional knowledge, planning and practical techniques when creating gardens, parks and other outdoor areas. The work alternates between tasks such as planting, sowing, laying tiles, using machinery and advising customers on solutions that suit the site.
The profession requires structure, overview and the desire to work outdoors in tasks where both details and the whole matter.
As a greenkeeper or groundsman, you work with large green areas where the quality of the grass and surface is crucial. You learn to create and maintain lawns that are even, strong and ready for sports or recreational purposes. The work combines professional knowledge, practical techniques and tasks where both the details and the whole matter.
During the training, you choose whether you want to be a greenkeeper or groundsman.
How to start the training
When you begin, you start with the basic course. Here you will receive an introduction to workshops, stables, natural environments and working methods that you will encounter in the subjects. This gives you a secure base to build on.
Basic course 1 – for those coming directly from primary school
You will try out different subject areas and work on smaller, concrete tasks. You will learn to understand basic routines and methods within, for example, animal care, plants, outdoor areas and agriculture. This will give you a clear sense of what the individual education programs focus on.
Basic course 2 – when you have chosen your education
The teaching will be geared towards the education you have chosen. You will work more purposefully with techniques, processes and environments that belong to the subject, and prepare yourself for both the internship and the main course.

In the Agriculture, Animals, Plants and Nature major, you work with tasks within the green area. You gain experience working with animals, plants and nature as well as with technology and machines used in the subjects.
The teaching takes place both outdoors and indoors. You will work in fields and green areas, in a barn and in the machine hall, among other things. Here you will try different types of tasks within the green subjects and gain insight into how to work in practice with animals, plants and nature.
Through the assignments, you learn to work under natural conditions and gain insight into the professional traditions that characterize green education. You also work together with your classmates and learn to solve tasks across subjects.
In addition, you have basic subjects such as Danish. Here you learn, among other things, how to read professional guides and instructions, create work descriptions and explain work processes. You also work on topics such as job searching, working environment, health, workplace culture and citizenship.

You work both independently and with your classmates on assignments and projects. Along the way, you are continuously evaluated in relation to your learning, your work effort and your choice of subjects. This helps to clarify whether you need extra support or more challenges.
When you have completed Basic Course 1 in the field of Agriculture, Animals, Plants and Nature, you will have gained experience with several subjects and work areas within the field.
This makes it easier to choose which vocational training you want to continue with afterwards – and you are better equipped to understand and collaborate with other professions when you later start your apprenticeship.

If you come directly from primary school
If you come directly from the 9th or 10th grade of primary school, you must start with Basic Course 1 (GF1) and choose one of our majors. GF1 always starts in August. Register at optagelse.dk up to six months before the start of your studies.
If you don't come directly from primary school
If it has been between ½ and 2 years since you finished primary school, you decide for yourself whether you want to start with GF1 or GF2.
If you are not coming straight from the 9th or 10th grade, you can start with Basic Course 2 (GF2). You must also start with GF2 if you have an apprenticeship (a training agreement) in a company before you start.
GF2 typically starts in August and January, but this can vary from program to program. A clear exception is the EUX programs, where GF2 only starts in January. Some of our programs also start in October and April. Some of our programs have access restrictions, where you must meet special criteria to enter or apply for a quota place.
