Building automation technician – become a key player in the energy-efficient buildings of the future

The green transition places new demands on buildings' energy consumption and intelligent management. In this training course, you will learn to work with the technologies that make buildings smarter, more energy efficient and more sustainable.

Energy-efficient building automation – creates both energy savings and financial gains.

Through six practical modules, you will gain skills within IBI, CTS, KNX, lighting control and IoT - from installation and programming to optimization, troubleshooting and energy savings.

Module 1: IBI, function and installation

Learn to wire and install components for an intelligent building installation (IBI).

The course will include small practical exercises with IBI, KNX, DALI and DALI gateway.

  • Understanding of intelligent installations in buildings and their interaction.

  • Insight into how intelligent building installations and their programming can help make a building more energy efficient and increase comfort.

  • Knowledge of different topologies, e.g. DALI, KNX, Modbus and BACnet.

  • Knowledge of different types of conventional analog and digital signals.

  • Laying and connecting cables and installing components for intelligent building installations, taking into account cable types.

  • Troubleshooting the most common types of errors.

  • Quality assurance of the work and documentation of work performed

Module 2: BMS systems, system knowledge

Learn how to connect sensors and actuators to a building management system.

  • Connecting sensors and actuators to a building management system.

  • Knowledge of the structure of CTS systems (Central Condition Monitoring and Control)

  • Knowledge of applicable rules and standards for the placement and connection of sensors and actuators to a building management system.

  • Select, place and connect sensors and actuators as active components for a BMS system for heating and ventilation.

  • Knowledge of how the units of a building management system are connected and communicate.

  • Documentation and quality assurance of own work.

  • Knowledge of the connection between CTS and BMS (building management system) and the possibility of optimizing by integrating with other systems.

Module 3: BMS system, programming and troubleshooting

Learn to program and commission a building management system, taking into account applicable rules and standards.

The course focuses on ventilation.

  • Knowledge of the principles behind configuring and programming BMS systems (Central Condition Monitoring and Control)

  • Graphical user interface setup.

  • Knowledge of various options for energy saving in connection with building management systems.

  • Make simple connections to smaller BMS systems based on knowledge of how to commission and regulate a BMS system

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

  • Quality assurance of own work and documentation of work performed.

  • Troubleshooting the most common types of errors in building automation systems.

Siemens Synco is used.

Module 4: KNX installations, programming and system knowledge

Gain a basic understanding of intelligent installations with KNX and learn how to perform simple programming of a KNX installation.

  • Gaining a basic understanding of intelligent installations with KNX, including possibilities and limitations

  • Knowledge of KNX so that guidance can be provided to customers on the application possibilities of the KNX system

  • Knowledge of planning and construction as well as quality assurance of a small KNX installation based on the applicable rules and standards for the KNX system's network topology and the provisions of the High Voltage Executive Order

  • Perform simple programming using the ETS programming software and commission and document a small KNX installation

  • Building KNX installations with multiple lines

  • Using the ETS programming software for fault location and troubleshooting of KNX installations

  • Programming and setting of program parameters on KNX installations for buildings

Module 5: Lighting systems, energy efficiency and comfort

Learn to optimize existing systems and profitability when investing in new systems. Learn to choose possible solutions based on knowledge of ballasts, drivers, gateways, IoT (Internet of Things) and PoE (Power over Ethernet).

  • Guidance of the customer in choosing a solution based on calculations of profitability (payback times) when investing in a new plant in relation to optimizing existing plants.

  • Based on the customer's needs, select possible solutions based on knowledge of ballasts, drivers, gateways, IoT (Internet of Things) and PoE (Power over Ethernet).

  • Select, place and install control and control components for a lighting system, including DALI, PWM (dimming technology), zone control, sensors and controllers.

  • When installing, take precautions to avoid electrical noise (EMI and EMC) in connection with lighting controls.

  • The participant programs and adjusts existing or new lighting systems with the aim of high energy efficiency and optimal comfort. The participant can also troubleshoot and correct common types of errors.

  • The participant quality assures their own work.

  • The participant has knowledge of operation and maintenance plans, including measurements and data for documentation.

Module 6: IoT in the electricity industry - introduction

Learn to use simple Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and applications for electrical installations in buildings.

Course content

  • Apply simple Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and applications to electrical installations in buildings.

  • Knowledge of different types of IoT sensors and simple IoT applications relevant to electrical installations (for example, measurement of electricity consumption and power, indoor climate, door status, light level, smoke detection).

  • Set up sensors and connect them to relevant applications and platforms.

  • Collect simple data from the installations and use this data to improve the use of the installation, e.g. through improved fire protection or building operations.

  • Understanding the possibilities of using IoT in electrical installations and can help identify customer needs with an eye for new IoT opportunities and the value they can create.

  • Communicate the benefits of simple IoT solutions to the customer.

Target group

The training course is for those who work with or will work with building installations.

Course certificate

Competency-giving course certificates and supplementary training certificates are issued.
