WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT?

The project was a partnership between the passenger car mechanic education programs at Techcollege and the Vocational Institute Prakticum from Helsinki, Finland. Prakticum is a multidisciplinary vocational school that is Swedish-language and serves the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland.

The partnership was applied for by Prakticum at ERASMUS+ in Finland, and received co-financing of 60,000 EUR from the ERASMUS+ KA2 Small-Scale Partnership program.

The purpose of the partnership was to compare educational approaches and experiences between the schools within the growth area: teaching in the service and repair of electric cars - and to identify new (common, digital) elements for teaching that could be advantageously developed together.

The partnership also included two joint teaching weeks with the participation of students from both schools (one week in Denmark + one week in Finland) with testing of the developed elements.

In parallel with this, the project also developed an inspiration catalogue with input from experts, teachers and students from both countries on the theme: how do we create the mechanic education of the future that is equally attractive to girls and boys?

THE PROJECT IN NUMBERS

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF THE PROJECT?

  • Four partner meetings (2 in Aalborg, DK and 2 in Helsinki & Borgå, Finland) between teachers from the schools' passenger car mechanic education programs

  • Comparison of educational structure, content and digital learning platforms used

  • Identification of digital development potential for new learning content in the education programs.

  • Development of a 4-day joint introductory course (digitally based theory training + workshop internship) for servicing electric cars.

  • Implementation of 2 pilot courses with the 4-day intro course (1 in Aalborg, and 1 in Borgå) for a total student group of approximately 30 students with a 50/50 distribution between Danish and Finnish students

  • Conducting two workshops (+follow-up) with students, teachers and external experts focusing on ideas to make the mechanic education (and the choice of this) more attractive for both girls and boys.

  • Summary of the project's learning in the form of a full material package from the pilot course + inspiration catalogue with inputs from the two workshops – shared via final webinar and upload of materials to the EU ERASMUS Project Results Server

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROJECT?

The project achieved the following results in accordance with the performance objectives set out in the application:

  • Electric car courses at Techcollege and Prakticum compared and common development potential identified

  • Development potential addressed through joint development of new teaching content with a digital starting point

  • 4 teacher meetings completed

  • 2 student exchanges (15 students each) completed – and used for pilot testing of newly developed teaching content

  • Inspiration catalog regarding the future of mechanic education as an attractive choice for both girls and boys developed

  • All material developed in the project disseminated to the partners' network and made available to all educational institutions in the EU.

Furthermore, through the project, Techcollege and the Vocational Institute Prakticum have achieved the establishment of mutual relationships at management level, between the schools' international coordinators and between management and teachers in the automotive field. The project has shown both similarities and differences between the teaching focus and student groups at the schools, and how the teaching of servicing electric cars is part of the overall mechanic education.

The project has created a basis for possible future cooperation between the schools in terms of professional and pedagogical development, as well as student and teacher exchange in both the mechanical engineering programs and other subject areas offered at both schools.
