Asbestos workwithout authorization – for consultants

Course content:

The participant learns to work in a fully safe and health-friendly manner with any asbestos work other than demolition of asbestos-containing material requiring authorization, as defined and regulated in the Executive Order on Asbestos in the Working Environment. In this context, the participant acquires the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills with regard to prevention and safety.

On the second day of the course, we visit the laboratory and analysis company Eurofins, where we will:

  • Presentation on environmentally hazardous substances such as PCBs, chlorinated paraffins, heavy metals and asbestos

  • Review of asbestos analysis methods – which analysis methods should be chosen for which type of material samples to ensure an accurate result?

  • Review and demonstration of sampling for asbestos in air

  • Tour of the laboratory and demonstration of one of our asbestos analysis methods

  • Here you will be able to see how the analysis is performed and see asbestos fibers in their purest and finest form.

Target group:

The course is aimed at professionals who work with consulting, design, mapping, supervision, sampling, analysis, quality assurance and working environment in connection with renovation, conversion and demolition projects where asbestos and PCBs may occur.

The course is relevant for people who work with or have responsibility for:

  • Pre-feasibility studies and environmental mapping

  • Planning and coordination of sampling

  • Risk assessment and working environment

  • Advice on current legislation and regulations

  • Preparation of tender materials and descriptions

  • Supervision of asbestos and PCB-related works

  • Quality assurance and documentation

  • Indoor climate measurements and control measurements

  • Handling and assessment of analysis results

  • Communication between client, consultant, contractor and laboratory

  • Construction waste, environmental consulting and environmental screening

The course is also relevant for companies and organizations that want updated knowledge about applicable regulations, safe sampling, correct handling of asbestos-containing materials, and the interaction between asbestos, PCBs, and the working environment in the construction industry.

Goal:

The participant can work in a fully safe and health-friendly manner with:

  • Knows relevant work environment regulations, including the regulations regarding:
    a. asbestos in the working environment
    b. cleaning of work areas
    c. demolition of asbestos-containing material requiring authorization
    d. preliminary investigation to determine which materials may contain asbestos, including the availability of test results to employees
    e. training and instruction in carrying out the specific work
    f. youth work
    g. the distribution of responsibilities in relation to relevant actors
    h. notification of asbestos work
    i. asbestos protocols

  • Knows the properties and health effects of asbestos, including the synergistic effect of smoking

  • Know which product types or materials may be suspected of containing asbestos

  • Know which activities can lead to exposure to asbestos dust and know the importance of preventive protective measures to reduce exposure

  • Know which work methods are safe

  • Can use technical aids such as technological equipment and machinery in such a way that the development and spread of asbestos dust is limited. Can work with, among other things:
    a. low-dust working methods
    b. process extraction and other extraction
    c. demarcation of a work area, signage and access
    d. shielding a work area
    e. cleaning, including a suitable vacuum cleaner
    f. personal safety when taking samples.

  • Know which protective measures and personal protective equipment to use in different work situations

  • Knows the purpose of personal protective equipment and can choose the right ones, knows the associated limitations and can use personal protective equipment correctly, especially with regard to respiratory protection

  • Knows emergency measures

  • Knows decontamination procedures

  • Can handle asbestos-containing waste for disposal, including correct packaging and labeling of the waste

  • By ensuring that employees are offered access to health screenings
