RTM vacuum casting of fiberglass composite parts

Learn how to manufacture fiberglass reinforced composite parts using RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) vacuum injection molding.

In the course you will gain insight into materials, process equipment and methods so that you can plan, document and implement a controlled and efficient vacuum casting process.

You work with the entire process – from material selection and process preparation to monitoring, quality control and optimization of production.

The course gives you the necessary skills to work with both polyester and epoxy-based systems in the production of fiber-reinforced composite parts.

The course gives you specialized skills in RTM vacuum molding and enables you to work with modern production methods for manufacturing glass fiber reinforced composite parts with high quality and uniformity.

Target group

The course is aimed at skilled and unskilled workers who work or want to work in companies that manufacture products in fiber-reinforced thermoset plastic.
It is a prerequisite for participation that you have completed and passed the course Personal Safety When Working with Epoxy (47942).

You will learn that

After completing the course you can:

  • Carry out RTM vacuum injection molding of parts in glass fiber reinforced thermoset plastic with polyester or epoxy as matrix.

  • Apply knowledge of vacuum casting processes, materials and process equipment in practical work.

  • Make material selections for the desired casting process and part construction.

  • Plan, document and implement casting processes in both single and double molds.

  • Prepare and use vacuum equipment correctly.

  • Check viscosity and gel time before casting.

  • Monitor and control the casting process based on parameters such as time, temperature and flow rate.

  • Establish emergency suction and emergency inlet during casting to ensure a stable process.

  • Perform process control and documentation of the production process.

  • Contribute to process optimization through analysis and evaluation of casting results.

Course certificate

After completing the course, a course certificate giving competence is issued.
