Casting of epoxy composite parts

Gain basic skills in the manufacture of epoxy composite parts and learn to work safely and correctly with fiberglass reinforcement and epoxy-based materials.

In the course, you will gain insight into materials, processes and curing requirements so that you can produce smaller and uncomplicated composite parts with high quality.

You work with the entire casting process – from planning and material calculation to building laminates, sandwich constructions, quality control and maintenance of casting molds.

The course gives you a solid foundation in the casting of epoxy composites and the practical skills that are in demand in companies that work with the manufacture of fiber-reinforced composite products.

Target group

The course is aimed at skilled and unskilled workers who work or want to work in companies that manufacture epoxy composite products.
It is a prerequisite for participation that you have completed and passed the course Personal Safety When Working with Epoxy (47942).

You will learn:

After completing the course you can:

  • Apply basic material and process knowledge when casting epoxy composite parts.

  • Work with the special curing requirements that apply to epoxy-based materials.

  • Produce less massive and uncomplicated composite parts with fiberglass reinforcement and epoxy as resin.

  • Apply principles of adhesion as well as putty and glue techniques in practical work.

  • Build sandwich structures with relevant core materials.

  • Perform general mold care and maintenance of molds before, during and after casting.

  • Conduct visual inspections of raw materials, process flows and finished laminates.

  • Use relevant laboratory equipment for quality control.

  • Calculate material consumption based on workpiece drawings and your own sketches.

  • Prepare laminate descriptions and calculate glass percentage and mixing ratio for raw materials.

  • Apply previously acquired safety skills in connection with practical work with epoxy composites.

Course certificate

After completing the course, a course certificate giving competence is issued.
